Ring Events

The 16 Ring Events begin on Wednesday and conclude on Saturday. Each competitor may participate in one Ring Event per day, so it’s important to look over the schedule and choose your games carefully.

The number of rounds in each Ring Event depends on the number of entrants, but it will not exceed five rounds. In these single elimination events, the winners of each game move forward to the next round until a single player, the winner for that game, remains.

Semifinal Games

Sunday’s game play begins with four semifinal games in which the 16 semifinalists play to advance to the final Championship game. Game seating for the semifinal round is random, with the exception that a competitor will not be assigned to play the game with which they qualified. The winners of these four games move forward to the Championship.

Choosing the Championship Game

At this point, the remaining competitors have proven their expert-level abilities in at least two of the games. To choose the final game, the administrators throw out the games in which the four finalists won their rings and the games with which they advanced to the Championship.

Then each finalist secretly and simultaneously votes to remove another one of the eight remaining games.

Finally, one of the remaining games is randomly selected for Championship game play.

The Final

The player who defeats their opponents during the final round wins $25,000, is crowned the World Champion and has their name recorded in the annals of board gaming history.

Awards

More than $100,000 in cash and prizes will be presented to competitors. Each of the 16 Ring Event winners will receive a one-of-a-kind 2022 Championship ring and have the chance to collect more prizes by making it through the semifinal round.

Finalist Cash Prizes

Those competing in the Final will receive 1st through 4th place awards:

1st Place — The coveted WSBG Board Gaming Championship Bracelet, valued at over $3,000, + $25,000 in cash

2nd Place — $10,000 in cash

3rd Place — $5,000 in cash

4th Place – $1,000 in cash

More prizes will be announced prior to the event.
